Abstract: The concept of a Technology Platform (TP) has been established by the European Commission as a new mechanism for fostering activities where research, technology and development are fundamental to addressing major economic, technological or societal challenges. While the main activities of the Biofuel TP will be supported by the participants themselves, there is a need for coordination, document handling, organisation of workshops and dissemination of information from and to members of the TP and others. The activities to fulfil this need are to be supported by the EC through a 'Secretariat'.

Abstract: The project aims at demonstrating the technical and economical possibility of generating heat, cold and power in a small scale system (BIO_MGT) based on an EU-manufactured MGT combining solid biomass and natural gas combustion in an innovative way. The BIO_MGT system - BIO_MGT matches an externally fired cycle with an open MGT (100 kWe) cycle.

This network was initially set up under the EC FP5 Programme, as the leading European CCS networking forum.

Abstract: The new direct drive generator - the NewGen - has the potential to reduce the weight and thus the cost of the generator installation by 70%. This is mainly achieved by applying a novel mechanical solution, which drastically reduces the stiffness requirements and therefore permits a larger diameter of the generator. In this way both the amount of electrically active material and the amount of construction material are reduced. Thus the total wind turbine cost will decrease by roughly 20%.

Abstract: The overall goal of HyHEELS is to provide an UltraCap energy storage system for the use in hybrid- and fuel cell vehicles, which satisfies all properties necessary to make an integrative component. Therefore, the development work comprises the optimisation of the electric properties of the basic cap, its combination into scalable modules with integrated power balancing within the modules, power prediction and the communication interface with the drivetrain.
