Abstract: The HOLISTIC project aims to stimulate a paradigm shift in the use of energy within communities to more sustainable patterns. It will demonstrate how this transformation can be initiated in three typical communities by acting on every aspect of community life. The project is based in three selected zones in Dundalk (Ireland), Mödling (Austria) and Neuchâtel (Switzerland) each of which is representative of a typical communit.

Abstract: The aim of this project is to turn 4 core communities (Germany, Austria, Luxemburg, Poland) with clearly defined system borders and 14 - 20.000 inhabitants each into CONCERTO communities. A mix of different EE and RES demonstrations (including refurbishment of old buildings, eco-buildings and polygeneration, all underpinned with complete business plans) will allow to avoid about 300 GWh/yr end energy from fossil sources.

Abstract: The objective is to demonstrate solar photovoltaic systems that provide electricity, heating and cooling (polygeneration), integrated into the urban environment. The system is based on miniature solar collectors using concentrating photovoltaics technology developed jointly in Italy and Israel. Two types of collectors are included: Building-Integrated Spherical Collectors (BISC), and miniature parabolic dishes.

Abstract: The project is focused on the demonstration of two innovative and sustainable medium size (60 kW, 100 kW) European heating systems for domestic and tertiary buildings, using as fuel medium-low quality wastes from agro/forest/wood production. Each heating system is based on a sustainable and replicable approach. Raw material selected is a broad list and mix of fuels, which will allow using the most economical fuel of the market.

Abstract: The SORCER project is based on energy-efficient dwellings with a maximum use of sustainable energy in two communities. Hillerød (DK) and Apeldoorn (NL) are working on very ambitious projects. Cooperation shall increase the impact of the demonstration, an advantage for all stakeholders. In Zuidbroek 1000 dwellings will be built to a standard 20% beyond new regulations.

SUPRA-BIO achieves this by focussing on innovative research and development of critical unit operations, by using process intensification to match economic production to the scale of available feedstock and by process integration that provides energy from process waste, optimises utilities to minimise environmental impact and maximises value from the product mix.
