Abstract: CASCADE MINTS is a project involving the development and use of energy and energy/economy models with special emphasis on analysing technological developments. Part 1 focuses on modelling, scenario evaluation and detailed analysis of the prospects of the hydrogen economy. The main aim of Part 2 is to use a wide range of existing operational energy and energy/economy models in order to build analytical consensus concerning the impacts of policies aimed at sustainable energy systems.

Abstract: The FCTEDI project is concerned with the dissemination of results in fuel cell testing, quality assurance and safety of fuel cells especially efforts on harmonization, benchmarking and validation of a collection of test protocols, testing procedures and measurement methodologies to facilitate standardization in the field and to analyze meta-gaps in this area. FCTEDI is the natural successor to the FCTESTNET thematic network and the FCTESQA STREP. Furthermore, it will perform a "Meta-Gap" analysis for Regulations Codes and Standards for stationary fuel cells.

256. ISCC - Innovative In Situ CO2 Capture Technology for Solid Fuel Gasification (ISCC)

Abstract: The new process technology proposed is based on steam gasification of low rank, high moisture brown coal, which includes the high temperature removal of CO2 by using high temperature efficient sorbent materials. The combination of both, the gasification and the in situ CO2 capture initiates a shift reaction in product gas composition towards H2. The CO2 laden sorbent material has to be regenerated in an additional calcinations step, generating a pure CO2 gas stream for subsequent sequestration. The proposed project aims on exploiting this potential to produce a gas stream in the regeneration process consisting of >95% CO2.

Abstract: The goal of the MOLYCELL is to improve the lifetime and efficiency of organic solar cells. The MOLYCELL project will focus on the development of two types of photovoltaic devices: all-organic solar cells and nanocrystal / organic hybrid solar cells. The consortium will bring together experts from the polymer and dye-sensitized solar cell communities, with expertise in the design and synthesis of organic polymers, low temperature fabrication, and roll-to-roll manufacturing of materials. The cost-target is to reduce future production costs to below €1/WP.

Abstract: The Network covers the entire field of bio-energy. In close co-operation with industry, it will analyse the barriers in the bio-energy sector, taking into account the whole biomass utilisation chain. Points studied will be the heterogeneous feedstock base, competing uses of biomass, the complex properties of bio-materials, socio-economic factors related to crop production, technical challenges and economic boundary conditions.

Abstract: The main objective of the RENEW project is to research and develop second-generation biofuels for use in modern combustion engines. A wide range of pathways will be studied for the production of road fuels from a broad range of biomass, notably lignocellulosic. A further objective is the assessment of the energy chain, the costs and CO2 emissions, by well-to-tank and LCA analysis. The most promising biofuels will be produced on a pilot scale.
