Abstract: The project especially addresses the aspects of pre-normative research, benchmarking, and validation through round robin testing of harmonised, industry-wide test protocols and testing methodologies. This activity will provide support for the essential pre-normative research efforts towards standardisation, thereby contributing to the early and market-oriented development of specifications and pre-standards. For the first time within the EU the internationally agreed harmonised test procedures (FCTESTNET results) will be validated through experimental campaigns.

Abstract: SOLAR-H brings together world-leading laboratories to carry out integrated, basic research on the common goal of hydrogen production from renewable resources. The vision is to develop novel, today non-existing routes for H2 produc-tion from solar energy and water. In a unique effort the project integrates, for the first time, two frontline topics: artificial photosynthesis in man-made systems, and photo-biological H2 production in living organisms.

Abstract: The aim of this project is to significantly reduce the cost of grid connected PV systems through the development and demonstration of PV modules with integrated inverters. The research has a strong focus on building-integrated PV, because the potential for this application is especially high in the densely populated areas of Europe. The cost targets for production are 0.3 €/Wp for the inverter and 3.0 €/Wp for the complete system.

Abstract: Renewable micro-CHP systems are a combination of micro-CHP technology (which, at present, are mainly powered by non-renewable fossil fuels (e.g. natural gas)) and renewable energy technology, such as biomass gasification systems or solar concentrators. The integration of renewable energy sources (RES) with micro-CHP allows for the development of sustainable energy systems with the potential for high market penetration; a cost- effective and reliable heat and electricity supply; and a highly beneficial environmental and economical impact on a pan-European scale.

Abstract: Energy storage is recognised as a key element for energy networks in the near future. Abstract: Economic and sustainable production of fuels, chemicals and materials from biomass requires capturing the maximum energy and monetary value from sustainable feedstock. SUPRA-BIO achieves this by focussing on innovative research and development of critical unit operations, by using process intensification to match economic production to the scale of available feedstock and by process integration that provides energy from process waste, optimises utilities to minimise environmental impact and maximises value from the product mix.
