Abstract: DESIRE will disseminate practices which will integrate fluctuating renewable electricity supplies such as wind power into electricity systems using combined heat and power. This will allow an increase in pan-European trade in electricity, it will improve the economic competitiveness of both CHP and wind power, and allow the proportion of renewable electricity that can be absorbed by the system to increase throughout the ED.

Abstract: Energy in Minds! aims at demonstrating that substantial reductions in fossil energy consumption and CO2-emissions can be achieved cost-efficiently within four years by implementing a coordinated set of RES, RUE and information measures. The four participating communities with 25.000 to 40.000 inhabitants each are amongst the most advanced in energy questions within their countries.

Abstract: HICONPV aims to develop, set up and test a new cost-effective high concentration PV system with a concentration factor of 1,000. The cost goal for the proposed type of system is €1/Wp until 2015. The most challenging task will be the development of a high-efficiency 2kWp III-V receiver with a module area of about 100cm2.

Abstract: The POLYCITY proposal focuses on large scale urban developments where living and working areas are integrated to result in sustainable city quarters with short distances and low transport energy consumption. The project treats different aspects of urban conversion: new constructions on sites with little development at the city edges of Barcelona, conversion of an old city quarter in Torino and a mixture of rehabilitation and new construction on a large military ground near Stuttgart.

SUPRA-BIO achieves this by focussing on innovative research and development of critical unit operations, by using process intensification to match economic production to the scale of available feedstock and by process integration that provides energy from process waste, optimises utilities to minimise environmental impact and maximises value from the product mix.
