Abstract: NANOSTIR represents a completely new and highly innovative, alternative polygeneration energy system. It does combine a solid biofuel boiler, a small power range Stirling engine and an absorption cooling machine to a concise and highly potential energy provision system. NANOSTIR significantly reduces former problems of Stirling engines with soiling and slagging of the primary heat exchanger by using solid biofuels by means of the applied nanotechnological coating material.

Abstract: The project is aimed at demonstrating the market potential of a new microCHP system in real domestic-size polygeneration applications. The Exheat microCHP system is based on the close integration of a boiler with an externally heated microturbine. The system delivers approximately 5 kW of electrical power and 15kW heating.

Abstract: Energy storage is recognised as a key element for energy networks in the near future. The main objective of this project is to develop a new generation high energy supercapacitor based system (HESCAP system), capable of storing ten times more energy than the reported State of the Art SC technology, but keeping the high power density, long life cycle and total capital cost of currently available supercapacitors.

Abstract: Economic and sustainable production of fuels, chemicals and materials from biomass requires capturing the maximum energy and monetary value from sustainable feedstock. SUPRA-BIO achieves this by focussing on innovative research and development of critical unit operations, by using process intensification to match economic production to the scale of available feedstock and by process integration that provides energy from process waste, optimises utilities to minimise environmental impact and maximises value from the product mix.

The research has a strong focus on building-integrated PV, because the potential for this application is especially high in the densely populated areas of Europe. The cost targets for production are 0.3 €/Wp for the inverter and 3.0 €/Wp for the complete system.

Abstract: Renewable micro-CHP systems are a combination of micro-CHP technology (which, at present, are mainly powered by non-renewable fossil fuels (e.g. natural gas)) and renewable energy technology, such as biomass gasification systems or solar concentrators. The integration of renewable energy sources (RES) with micro-CHP allows for the development of sustainable energy systems with the potential for high market penetration; a cost- effective and reliable heat and electricity supply; and a highly beneficial environmental and economical impact on a pan-European scale.

Abstract: The aim of the Project is to reduce significantly the cost of PV energy through the development of albedo bifacial modules. These modules will incorporate low cost and high efficiency bifacial silicon solar cells. Bifacial solar cells will be done by a new industrial technology of thin silicon solar cells manufactured by an integral screen-printing technique and using a BSF structure.

Abstract: The project will develop a process to produce clean hydrogen-rich synthesis gas at a scale of 18 MWth 7000 Nm³/hr of wet gas based on the gasification biomass, followed by upgrading, hot gas cleaning and steam reforming. Conversion of solid biofuel, high-temperature purification and operation with various feedstock will all be demonstrated.
