Abstract: NANOSTIR represents a completely new and highly innovative, alternative polygeneration energy system. It does combine a solid biofuel boiler, a small power range Stirling engine and an absorption cooling machine to a concise and highly potential energy provision system. NANOSTIR significantly reduces former problems of Stirling engines with soiling and slagging of the primary heat exchanger by using solid biofuels by means of the applied nanotechnological coating material.

Abstract: The project is aimed at demonstrating the market potential of a new microCHP system in real domestic-size polygeneration applications. Abstract: Energy storage is recognised as a key element for energy networks in the near future. The main objective of this project is to develop a new generation high energy supercapacitor based system (HESCAP system), capable of storing ten times more energy than the reported State of the Art SC technology, but keeping the high power density, long life cycle and total capital cost of currently available supercapacitors.

Abstract: Economic and sustainable production of fuels, chemicals and materials from biomass requires capturing the maximum energy and monetary value from sustainable feedstock. SUPRA-BIO achieves this by focussing on innovative research and development of critical unit operations, by using process intensification to match economic production to the scale of available feedstock and by process integration that provides energy from process waste, optimises utilities to minimise environmental impact and maximises value from the product mix.

Abstract: The aim of the project is to improve the manufacturing potential of thin-film solar modules based on CIS (copper indium diselenide) technology. The project will work on the development of the molybdenum back contact, the buffer layer, the CIS absorber and process control. Special emphasis is placed on the development of cadmium-free large-area modules and electro-deposition methods for CIS absorbers. Results of the work will be transferred from the laboratory to the pilot production facilities of the project partners.

Abstract: The project aims at developing reliable, cost effective and fuel flexible gasification technologies for high-efficiency small-to-medium scale power production from biomass. Three promising European gasification technologies have been selected to form the basis for the development of the second generation processes: air-blow fixed-bed gasifier for size range 0.5-5 MWe, steam gasification in a dual-fluidised-bed gasifier for 5-50 MWe and air-blown pressurised fluidised-bed gasification technology for 5-100MWe.

Abstract: The project aims on developing a dry CO2 capture system for atmospheric and pressurized fluidized bed boilers. The atmospheric option will be developed towards a pilot plant application. For the pressurized option the project seeks for a proof of principle to determine if the advantages of a pressurized capture system can balance the problems known from existing PFBC systems.

Abstract: The overall objective of the FlameSOFC project is the development of an innovative SOFC-based micro-CHP system capable to operate with different fuels and fulfilling all technological and market requirements at a European level. The main focus concerning the multi-fuel flexibility lies on different natural gas qualities and LPG, but also on liquid fuels (diesel like heating oil, industrial gas oil IGO and renewables like FAME).

Abstract: The growth of the photovoltaic industry has resulted in an increased demand for silicon feedstock, the price of which has risen significantly. The FOXY project will address this problem by developing refining, purification, and crystallisation processes for metallurgical solar-grade silicon feedstock, as well as for recycled electronic-grade silicon. The refined solar-grade silicon cost target is 15 €/kg, and the electronic quality of the feedstock material will be assessed by fabricating and analysing large area solar cells.
