Abstract: NANOSTIR represents a completely new and highly innovative, alternative polygeneration energy system. It does combine a solid biofuel boiler, a small power range Stirling engine and an absorption cooling machine to a concise and highly potential energy provision system. NANOSTIR significantly reduces former problems of Stirling engines with soiling and slagging of the primary heat exchanger by using solid biofuels by means of the applied nanotechnological coating material.

Abstract: Energy storage is recognised as a key element for energy networks in the near future. SUPRA-BIO achieves this by focussing on innovative research and development of critical unit operations, by using process intensification to match economic production to the scale of available feedstock and by process integration that provides energy from process waste, optimises utilities to minimise environmental impact and maximises value from the product mix.

Abstract: The MIRACLE project's main goal is to develop a conceptual and infrastructural approach that allows energy distribution companies to efficiently manage higher amounts of renewable energy and balance supply and demand. Currently, most renewable energy sources (RES) (e.g. windmills, solar panels) pose the challenge that the production depends on external factors, such as wind speed and direction, the amount of sunlight, etc. Hence, available power from RES can only be predicted but not planned, which makes it difficult for energy distributors to efficiently include RES into their daily schedules.

Abstract: Although significant leakage from CO2 storage sites is not expected, if it did occur there could be adverse environmental consequences, which are not well constrained. The objective of RISCS is to provide fundamental research on environmental impacts. The assessments will be based on field laboratory experiments, measurements at natural leakage sites and numerical simulations, for both marine and terrestrial ecosystems.

Abstract: The ThinSi project will develop a solar cell processing chain for high throughput, cost-effective manufacturing of thin film silicon based solar cells on low-cost silicon substrates. The project will develop innovative technologies and equipment prototypes that can easily be scaled up and transferred to production lines by the end of the project.
