Abstract: NANOSTIR represents a completely new and highly innovative, alternative polygeneration energy system. It does combine a solid biofuel boiler, a small power range Stirling engine and an absorption cooling machine to a concise and highly potential energy provision system. NANOSTIR significantly reduces former problems of Stirling engines with soiling and slagging of the primary heat exchanger by using solid biofuels by means of the applied nanotechnological coating material.

Abstract: This innovative project will create a pilot production line capable of producing CIGSe solar cells for much less than 1€/Wp. Abstract: The novel approach in the project is based on a combined bioprocess employing thermophilic and phototrophic bacteria, to provide the highest hydrogen production efficiency in small-scale, cost effective industries. The process starts with the conversion of biomass to make a suitable feedstock for the bioprocess. The subsequent bioprocess is optimised in terms of yield and rate of hydrogen production through integrating fundamental and technological approaches.

Abstract: The proposed work programme will cover porous storage systems (particularly at reduced temperatures), regenerative hydrogen stores (such as the borohydrides) and solid hydrides having reversible hydrogen storage and improved gravimetric storage performance. Initially, two categories of reversible stores will be investigated - light/complex hydrides, such as imides and intermetallic systems involving magnesium, although further categories may be included later.

Abstract: The rapid development of the photovoltaic market requires harmonised, high-quality testing and labelling of products, supported by a sound scientific base. The PERFORMANCE project covers pre-normative aspects of photovoltaic technology, from cell to system level. The limitations of current indoor and outdoor calibration and measurement practices will be investigated, and measurement precision will be improved for traditional technologies and for new and emerging photovoltaic concepts. The results of the project will be fed directly into standardisation processes at CENELEC and IEC level.
