International Cooperation

Chile

After the re-establishment of democracy in 1990, the EU signed the first Framework Co-operation Agreement in December 1990, thereby officially restoring political relations with Chile. An agreement on scientific and technological cooperation was signed by the EU and Chile in September 2002.

Bilateral cooperation

Cooperation in research between the EU and Chile is based on the "Agreement for scientific and technological cooperation between the European Community and the Republic of Chile" signed in 2002. Under this agreement cooperation may cover all the activities of research, technological development and demonstration included in the "Cooperation" Specific Programme of FP7.

The EU cooperates with the region "Latin America and Caribbean". EU cooperation activities with Chile in the area of energy research take place within this bi-regional context.
