The 2000 Descartes
prize for research: rewarding scientific
excellence
The year 2000
saw the launch of a new prize, the
Descartes Prize, as one the Fifth
Framework Programme initiatives to
promote scientific and technological
excellence, and to encourage the best
research teams to work together across
Europe.
From the one hundred
and fifteen eligible entries submitted
for this first call for Descartes,
a shortlist of 8 outstanding projects
was selected. Click below to find

Prize, announced on 8 November 2000
by the Descartes Grand Jury.
This was the first
time that a high-level scientific
distinction had been awarded by the
Commission for collaborative research
across the scientific disciplines.
