With a Ph. D. in history of science, Jean-Claude Guédon teaches comparative literature at the Université de Montréal in Canada. He specializes in digital cultures and has been involved in electronic publishing for the last twenty years. As an early advocate of Open Access, he was one of the original signatories of the Budapest Open Access Initiative. He has been a member of the Sub-Board of the Information programme that oversees Open Access activities within the Open Society Institute. He has also been a member of the Board of eIFL (Electronic Information for Libraries), and a vice-President for the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences. Presently, he is on the steering committee of Open Humanities press and on the advisory board of Open Access Publishing in European networks (OAPEN). He regularly lectures on various aspects of digital cultures in many parts of the world.
