Javier Vallés is Head of the Economic Bureau of the Spanish Prime Minister, since April 2008. He is also the National Coordinator for the Lisbon Strategy since December 2006.
Before heading the Bureau, Mr. Vallés was Director General of Economic Policy since February 2005. Previously, he worked as an economist in the Research Department of the Bank of Spain (1990-2005), holding the position as head of the forecast Division.
Mr. Vallés holds a degree in Business and Economic sciences from the Universidad de Zaragoza, a Masters Degree in Economics from the Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona and a PhD in Economics from the University of Minnesota (United states). He has been visiting Fellow at the University of Yale and Professor at the Department of Economic Analysis of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Mr. Vallés has also published several books and papers in specialised national and international journals in Economics.
