Carlo Rizzuto is President of Sincrotrone Trieste and Chairman of European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI). He is member of the Research Evaluation Committee advising the Italian Government.
Previous appointments: Member and Chairman of several National and International Bodies in Research and Research Policy, involved in the start-up of the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility in Grenoble, founder of the National Institute for the Physics of Matter, and of Technology transfer and Venture-capital firms dedicated to the support of research-based innovation.
Academic qualifications: Associate Professor Solid State Physics in 1963-5 and 1967- 76, Researcher of the National Research Council-CNR 1967-76, Visiting Fellow McGill University, Montreal 1965-66; Imperial College, London 1970; Universidad de Chile 1971; Lausanne 1982, Full Professor of Solid State Physics at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Genova, from 1976.
