Lisbon Strategy
In March 2000, EU leaders agreed to make the Union "the most competitive
and dynamic knowledge-based economy in the world, capable of sustainable
economic growth with more and better jobs and greater social cohesion".
This is detailed in the Lisbon Strategy.

On 22-23 March 2005, the Spring Council discussed the Commission's mid-term review of the Lisbon strategy for economic,
social and environmental renewal. The key elements of the Lisbon reforms are more focus on growth and employment,
