CONFERENCE - THE EUROPE OF KNOWLEDGE 2020 - 25-28 April 2004 | Liège Convention Centre, Belgium

Parallel session 9
University autonomy and governance

Tuesday 27 April, 14:30-17:30

Europe has seen a number of higher education reforms in recent years, some more radical than others. The general trend seems to be towards giving universities more autonomy. Universities have gained more room it would seem, to develop their own missions outside of governmental control. This session gave an insight into new patterns of governance and the challenges universities are facing over the implications of public and private funding.

Chairperson Marijk van der Wende, Professor, Centre for Higher Education Policy Studies (CHEPS) (NL)
Rapporteur Barbara Kehm, Professor, University of Kassel (DE)
