CONFERENCE - THE EUROPE OF KNOWLEDGE 2020 - 25-28 April 2004 | Liège Convention Centre, Belgium

Parallel session 6
Universities driving regional development

Tuesday 27 April, 9:45-12:45

Universities make a major contribution to the development of the regions in which they are located, particularly as Europe’s regions move towards the knowledge economy. Universities can provide their expertise in a number of scientific fields; they can offer advanced training, give advice to local companies, and strengthen the economy of the region by contributing to the development of spin-offs. This session considered current practice in universities’ regional activities and examined how universities can become motors of regional development.

Chairperson Jyrki Myllyvirta, Mayor of Mikkeli, Member of the Committee of the Regions, Commission for Culture and Education (FI)
