Animal Biotechnology Working Group has organised a workshop on "Priorities to Realize the Promise of Genomics to Animal Health, Well Being & Production"

The workshop focused on international priorities in genomics for animal health, well-being, and production. Cyberinfrastructure and bioinformatics needs as well as database interoperability have been specifically considered and the outcomes of the workshop will be used for the orientation of future research activities with the final aim to achieve better synergies between EC and US on research calls regarding livestock genomics. This 2.5 days workshop was held at Beltsville from November 8th, up to November 10th 2011. The first day brought in different life science community keynote speakers from zebrafish, plants, and mice fields) and this first day was web-casted.  The eight invited speakers gave a short summary on the different projects currently running in their own field.  These presentations were made in order to open proactive discussion of challenges and opportunities of each area addressed and for livestock systems. The following one and a half day were dedicated to brainstorming between the scientists and stakeholders invited (12 participants from each side) in order to see how at best use the experience from other life science fields into livestock genomics for health, welfare and production. A final report is expected by the end of January 2012.
