Why an Advisory Group?
Under the Specific Programmes implementing the Seventh Framework Programme (2007- 2013), the Commission is responsible for drawing up annual work programmes. In so doing, the Commission wishes to draw on the best possible external advice. A devoted Advisory Group has been created within each theme.
How does it work for ‘Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, and Biotechnology’?
The Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, and Biotechnology Advisory Group is composed of members who should provide consistent and consolidated advice to the Commission services regarding the Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, and Biotechnology theme of the Cooperation Specific Programme. The objective is to provide advice on strategy, relevant objectives and scientific and technological priorities.
In line with Annex 1 of the specific programme on ‘Cooperation’, advice should pertain to: all activities under the theme, including international cooperation and responding to emerging needs and unforeseen policy needs, taking into account multidisciplinary and cross-thematic research; dissemination, knowledge transfer and broader public engagement; SME participation; and societal and economic aspects.
Who are they?
Since FP5, the members of Advisory Groups are nominated ad personam by the Commissioner involved, and participate in the groups in their individual capacity.
