Marine Science needs you!
The first every Ocean Sampling Day will take place on 21 June 2014. On midsummer’s day, up to 100 teams of scientists will take water samples from oceans around the world to identify the microbes present.
The results of this global effort will be the biggest data set in marine research ever taken on a single day. The data will also be open access and will be incredibly valuable for marine scientists.
You too may take part in this adventure by joining the OSD Citizen Science campaign (MyOSD) and collecting important environmental data like latitude, longitude, temperature, wind speed and more. This will help the scientists understand the world’s oceans. It is important that all samples are taken on the same day.
With OSD, scientists will build a huge snapshot of the world’s oceans (high spatial resolution) in a very narrow time frame. The results can be compared to an ordinary photo – but one that captures all information in one picture.
For more information see the OSD website.
