GREEN WEEK 2013: policies for cleaner air

Europe’s premier event for the environment is back. The 2013 Green Week conference and exhibition will be held from 4 to7 June at the new Egg conference centre in Brussels. This year the topic is air quality in the EU, which has seen significant improvements over the last two decades – although the science tells us more needs to be done to improve health and avoid premature deaths.

Conference speakers include European Commission President José Manuel Barroso, and Environment Commissioner Janez Poto─Źnik, who will welcome participants in the opening session, setting the scene, listing achievements so far and looking forward to the Commission’s forthcoming air quality package.

Subsequent sessions will see academics, industrialists and policy makers discuss clean-air initiatives, technologies and policies; culminating in the closing session on ‘How do we ensure clean air for all?’. This last session will seek key avenues to implement EU air quality legislation more effectively and consider the most promising solutions, tools and milestones.

The Green Week conference is accompanied by an exhibition displaying business solutions, NGO activities and the activities of local, regional, European and international bodies concerned with environmental issues and solutions.
