SCAR - Fish

The Standing Committee on Agricultural Research (SCAR) in 2012 agreed on the establishment of a policy-driven strategic group with the objectives to advise the Commission and Member States on research policies and research themes in order to better coordinate and direct these activities in support of the revised Common Fisheries Policy. Furthermore, the group should develop collaboration between Member States in order to support cost efficient science and advice.

SCAR- Fish prepared a first report 15th April 2013. The report was used for the Commission’s work with Horizon 2020.

Following the adoption of the reformed Common Fisheries Policy on 14th June 2013 SCAR-Fish produced the final report on 8th November 2013. The report has been sent to EU Member States and Associated Countries through the permanent representations and missions in Brussels, to the European Commission through Commission representatives in SCAR-Fish and to SCAR.

The SCAR committee is supported by a Secretariat with staff from the Commission's Directorate-General for Research and staff made available to SCAR from Member States (‘virtual secretariat’). The Secretariat is in charge of the preparation and follow-up of forum meetings (e.g. coordination of the agenda, invitation, documents for the meeting, minutes) and provides assistance to the working groups.
