Georgina MacLeod, the O4O project
13/06/2012Testimonial of Georgina MacLeod about the O4O project. People in the EU are living longer than ever, and the proportion of the population aged over 55 is growing all the time. In some rural areas on the fringes of northern Europe, many pensioners live by themselves, and risk becoming isolated and marginalised if public transport and other services are not available and they cannot afford special care. In these remote regions, skilled staff, such as carers and nurses, are often hard to recruit and retain. The O4O project – Older people for Older people – co-financed by the European Union, responded to this challenge, using existing skills and experience within ageing communities. O4O shows older people how they can take responsibility for providing the services they need, and organises support across rural Scotland, Finland, Greenland, Northern Ireland and Sweden. At a time when public spending is under pressure in many parts of the EU, the project demonstrates how vital networks and facilities can be maintained in a way that also encourages older people to stay active and make an important contribution to society. Since then, it has established itself as a ground breaker in developing clean, environmentally friendly technologies. By encouraging cleantech companies with innovative ideas, this outstanding project has helped create 5 000 jobs and grow the local economy. These local firms have expanded their workforce by over 10% a year, on average. Winner of the RegioStars 2012 Award - Smart Growth category

Brücken bauen zwischen Menschen
01/11/2011Dieses Video beleuchtet verschiedene Aspekte der Europäischen Territorialen Zusammenarbeit, verdeutlicht den Nutzen der Unterstützung durch den Europäischen Fonds für Regioniale Entwicklung (EFRE) für die Projekte im Bereich der grenzüberschreitenden Zusammenarbeit. So erleichtert das Projekt der Universität der Großregion den Austauch und die Mobilität zwischen verschiedenen europäischen Universitäten, den Bau und Erhalt von 17000 Straßenkilometer, die den Transport erleichtern, das Projekt LABEL verringert die Überflutungsrisiken im Elbebecken, der Austausch bewährter Verfahren und Erfahrungen trägt zu Wirtschaftswachstum bei und schließlich wird gezeigt, wie mehrere grenzüberschreitende Programme die Integration marginalisierter Bevölkerungsgruppen erleichtert.

ROMA: Daroczi Zoltanne (Porträt)
01/10/2011Dieses Video erzählt die Geschichte von Daroczi Zoltanne, einer Einwohnerin der ungarischen Stadt Biharkeresztes. Als Mutter von zwei Kindern durchlebte Daroczi eine schwere Zeit, nachdem sie ihre Stelle in einer Kinderbetreuungsstätte verloren hatte. Doch dank des vom Europäischen Fonds für regionale Entwicklung (EFRE) unterstützten Roma-Projekts war sie in der Lage, eine neue Beschäftigung als Sozialarbeiterin zu finden. Dies war auch positiv für die Lebenssituation ihrer Kinder, die inzwischen eine bessere Schule besuchen.

Roma in den Arbeitsmarkt integrieren
01/10/2011Dieses Video zeigt eine der zahlreichen Facetten des ROMA-Projekts, das vom Europäischen Fonds für regionale Entwicklung (EFRE) unterstützt wird. Ziel des ROMA-Projekts ist, die große und seit langem diskriminierte Roma-Gemeinschaft – die in der Grenzregion zwischen Rumänien und Ungarn lebt – schrittweise zu integrieren. Hierzu soll den Roma geholfen werden, eine Beschäftigung zu finden. Einer der Projektteilnehmer, Dio Zoltan, führte eine Untersuchung durch, um das Berufsprofil arbeitsloser Roma zu erfassen. Im Anschluss wurden alle qualifizierten Personen an Arbeitsagenturen vermittelt. Der Austausch von Erfahrungen und bewährter Praktiken wirkte sich positiv auf die Beschäftigungschancen der Roma in beiden Ländern aus. Beispielsweise gelang es Daroczi Zoltanne, eine Beschäftigung im Sozialzentrum seines Dorfes zu finden und damit seinen und den Lebensstandard seiner Familie zu verbessern.

ROMA: Ioan Lakatos (Porträt)
01/10/2011In diesem Videoporträt schildert Ioan Lakatos, welche Rolle das vom EFRE finanzierte ROMA-Projekt für sein Unternehmen spielt. Als Roma gelang es Ioan, 200 Roma im Komitat Bihor davon zu überzeugen, sich einem Einstellungstest zu unterziehen. Für das Projekt ist er aus zwei Gründen dankbar: Zum einen kann er so als Arbeitgeber die richtigen Profile auswählen und zum anderen stellt es seiner Auffassung nach eine große Chance für die Gemeinschaft der Roma dar.
