RegioStars 2012 - ECO WORLD STYRIA
13/06/2012Eco World Styria started up in 2005, in Austria’s Styria region, with the aim of creating a location for the development of innovative green businesses, able to compete with the best at a global level. Since then, it has established itself as a ground breaker in developing clean, environmentally friendly technologies. By encouraging cleantech companies with innovative ideas, this outstanding project has helped create 5 000 jobs and grow the local economy. These local firms have expanded their workforce by over 10% a year, on average. Winner of the RegioStars 2012 Award - Smart Growth category

Robotdalen
27/04/2010This film is part of a series of four reports (Lithuania, Sweden, Denmark, Finland) produced within the framework of launching the EU strategy for the Baltic Sea. They present projects co-funded by the European Commission under the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Specialising in robotics in the broad sense, the Swedish centre of excellence known as Robotdalen (“robot valley”) aims to boost Västmanland county’s competitiveness and potential in terms of attracting foreign investment. With direct support from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the initiative finances and, where relevant, helps companies and engineers in the field of innovation, research and technological development to find sources of funding.

Twenty years on, EU funds (ERDF) were allocated to the new federal states (Saxony, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Thuringia, Saxony-Anhalt, Brandenburg, and part of Berlin).The €46 billion between 1990 and 2013 are making success stories like Biocity in Leipzig and an urban development project in Merseburg possible.
