This is the last in a series of reports on the socio-economic situation and development of the EU regions. In accordance with article 159 of the Treaty, the Commission publishes triennial reports on Economic and Social Cohesion.

Warning: the version of the periodic report is the draft of 3 February 1999 and does not take account of changes made between then and adoption on 28 July.
