Within the framework of OPEN DAYS, on 14 October 2015 a series of events will be organised under the heading "OPEN Urban DAY" in different buildings in the Brussels "Canal Area", a 15-minutes ride away via public transport from the city centre.
The European Commission, DG Regional and Urban Policy, and the European Committee of the Regions have joined forces with the Brussels Capital Region and local institutions, representatives from other cities and European networks to facilitate international exchange on urban development. Some 800 practitioners, officials and experts from all over Europe will use the canal area as a conference centre. Different interactive workshops on various urban topics await the participants, as well as the possibility to visit some interesting projects. Workshops will be organised around the new financial urban instruments, European initiatives like Smart Cities and the Urban Innovative Actions, URBACT, green incubators, revitalisation of the canal area, circular economy etc. The site visits will provide the opportunity to discuss about the respective projects with the actors at stake. Working language is English, with no interpretation.
Sessions will take place in the BEL building, an eco-friendly building housing the new administrative headquarters of Brussels Environment, in Tour & Taxis and the building of the KBC bank, all located alongside/near Avenue du Port/Havenlaan.
Guided visits to projects will be organised by the Brussels Capital Region. Participants will be able to register for those also through the online registration tool used for the OPEN DAYS.
In addition, the OPEN DAYS media programme would feature a guided tour for journalists to the main urban development areas in Brussels, such as Greenbizz, an incubator for green businesses and production site for sustainable material and technologies.
Participants to the OPEN Urban DAY workshops are invited to a networking - social event at BEL, from 5 – 7 pm.
