East Wales - ESF

Programme description

The Programme aims to add value to wider investment programmes so that together they can support sustainable jobs and growth in Wales. It will tackle poverty and social exclusion by increasing labour market participation and helping people to access sustainable employment, invest in skills as a driver to productivity and growth and invest in young people to create a future workforce with the skills needed to respond to the needs of a modern, knowledge based economy.

Investments will focus on the following priorities:

  • Actions will aim to increase the skills level of the workforce, including improving the career prospects and positions of women in the workforce. As a a result, the skills levels of employees with no or low skills should be improved and the number of people in the workforce with technical and job-specific skills at an intermediate and higher level should be increased.
  • The ESF will support measures to increase youth employment and educational attainment, in particular of young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) or who are at risk of becoming NEET.
  • To reduce poverty and social exclusion, employment levels for underrepresented groups and those furthest from the labour market will be increased. Actions aiming at better employability of economically inactive and long-term unemployed who have complex barriers to employment will contribute to this objective.
