Sardegna - ESF

Programme description

Education and young jobseekers are at the heart of Sardinia’s ESF investment plans which target better and more relevant skills among its workforce.

The ESF operational programme (OP) for the Sardinia island region of Italy will place a strong focus on the employment of young people and on its education system. Intensive action is planned to reduce the occurrence of early school-leaving. The aim of the OP is to contribute to sustainable and inclusive growth in employment. It has a budget of EUR 448 million.

Sardinia will invest ESF funding in three main areas:

  • Nearly 40% of the investment will go to creating sustainable employment and encouraging worker mobility. Training opportunities, counselling and guidance will be deployed to equip Sardinians with the skills that improve employability and adaptability.
  • Social inclusion measures will receive 20% of funding and will be directed at combating poverty and promoting equal opportunities, especially in access to jobs. Disadvantaged groups, such as the disabled, will benefit from measures to help them participate in the workforce.
  • Education, vocational training and lifelong learning will be boosted through projects to encourage participation. A reduction in early school-leaving is a specific target and young people will be supported in getting relevant qualifications for work. Teaching and qualifications will be made more relevant to employers’ needs.

In addition, the OP will invest in the institutional capacity of public services in Sardinia so they can better implement employment initiatives and serve the region’s jobseekers.
