EUR 10 million of regional funds to restore the maritime character of the Mont Saint Michel
(19 July 2013)
The European Commission has approved an investment of €10 million from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) to complete the restoration of the maritime character of the Mont Saint Michel in Basse Normandie, France.
With the restoration, the project aims to protect the biodiversity and ecosystem, and reduce the CO2 emissions on the Mont Saint Michel site. It will also improve the beauty of the site, and hence increase tourism. The project involves hydraulic works on the upstream of the dam to enhance the storage capacity, the destruction of the old parking at the foot of the Mont, the replacement of the old dam and the construction of a new bridge walkway integrated within the landscape.
