Madrid-Valencia in 90 minutes thanks to European support

Just a few weeks ago, it took nearly half a day to travel from Madrid to Valencia, Spain. The trip now takes just one and a half hours via AVE high-speed rail on a new line built with European Union support.

The ribbon-cutting for the new line was held last December with King of Spain Juan Carlos and Prime Minister José Luis Zapatero in attendance. The construction project generated numerous jobs and helped boost the economy during the crisis.

Total EU investment for high-speed lines in Madrid, Castile-La Mancha, and the Valencia and Murcia regions (€ Millions) :
2000-2006 Period 747.3
Cohesion Fund 574.6
European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) 124.5
Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) 48.2
