Brandenburg, Wales and Lithuania recognised as “Regions of Excellence”

The Cohesion Forum which recently drew to a close highlighted the need to align future cohesion policy investments with the Europe 2020 strategy. Brandenburg (Germany), Wales (United Kingdom) and Lithuania stand out as regions that have already carried out projects clearly on track to achieving these objectives. During a ceremony held on 31 January as part of the Forum, European Commission President José Manuel Barroso awarded the 'regions of excellence' prize to their representatives.
The regions awarded were selected from among those with the most finalist projects in the RegioStars Awards programme since 2008.
The 2011 RegioStars finalists will be revealed at the end of February.
