EU Regional Policy Commissioner Johannes Hahn meets Portuguese Prime Minister and outlines future priorities for EU funds in Portugal
Commissioner Johannes Hahn is in Lisbon today and tomorrow to meet Prime Minister Passos Coehlo and discuss how EU funds can best be deployed to deliver more growth and jobs in Portugal in the next round of EU spending. The Commissioner will also meet with Minister for Finance, Vítor Gaspar, Minister for the Economy and Employment, Álvaro Santos Pereira, and State Secretary Almeida Henriques. The visit comes at a critical phase in talks between Member States and the European Parliament on the next seven-year budget of the Union and the Commission's proposals for future regional policy.
During his visit the Commissioner will present the Commission's ideas about how he believes Portugal can strengthen its economy and maximise the benefits of EU investment by prioritising key sectors with the highest growth potential - in close alignment with 'Europe2020'– the EU's long-term growth agenda.
