President Barroso to attend the opening of new section of the emblematic EU-funded Sofia Metro
European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso is travelling to Sofia, Bulgaria to participate in the official opening of the new ‘Obelya - Lozenets’ section of the capital's Metro on Friday. The project received EUR 200 million from the Cohesion Fund, with a further EUR 50 million from the European Regional Development Fund and serves as a good example of integrated and sustainable transport, connecting all modes of transport, connecting trains, trams, busses and as of 2014, the city's airport. The project also brought economic benefits to older Member States, including France, as the French company SYSTRA was involved in the construction of the line. President Barroso will also meet with Bulgarian Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, holding a joint press-conference.
