Connecting smart and sustainable growth
(06 December 2012)
The Commission has just published a practical guide plotting a path to connect smart and sustainable growth in the framework of the forthcoming Smart Specialisation Strategies to be drawn up by regions and Member States.
The shift to a low-carbon and resource efficient economy represents both a challenge and an opportunity. In order to deliver benefits in terms of jobs and economic development, the deployment of a green economy needs to be very closely linked with innovation, both technological and non-technological.
This practical guide, aimed at European Regional Development Fund Managing Authorities shows concrete ways ahead to connect smart and sustainable growth, and draws from a broad range of good practice - often co-funded by EU Regional policy, in various areas such as eco-innovation, the bio-economy and ecosystems as well as renewable energy or adaptation to climate change.
