Newly built marina on the riverfront of Noteć River gives tourism in Greater Poland a boost

  • 05 August 2015

“Yndzel” marina on the Noteć River in Drawsko is one of five marinas built under an EU co-funded project called “The activation of the Great Loop of Wielkopolska - Phase I: construction of marinas on the river Noteć”. The investment makes a beautiful part of the Noteć available for water tourism and cultural activities. Other marinas financed from this project were built in Ujście, Konin, Czarnków and Ślesin.

The project contributed to a rapid development of tourism in the area. Every year the marina is visited by around 20 000 tourists. Five times more people use the waterway after the marina was created then before. We are very proud of this investment.

Marek Tchórzka, head of Drawsko municipality

The Great Loop of Wielkopolska is an extremely valuable waterway in terms of transport, landscape, nature and tourist potential. The route is 690 km long, combines two big rivers – Warta and Noteć – and is connected with waterways in both Western and Eastern Europe.

River Noteć is a part of this waterway, therefore local authorities decided to revitalise the riverfronts and build a professional marina for kayakers, sailors, yachtsmen and fishermen. Water sports lovers can use the professional marina with all necessary sanitary facilities, floating platforms in the dock, and canoe rental.

Professional infrastructure

To prepare the riverside to build a marina it was necessary to deepen the old river bed and to clear it from silt. As a result two beaches were created – one is situated on the mainland, the other on the peninsula over the river.

The marina is very well equipped. The floating platforms in the doc have access to clean water and electricity, special spots to empty boats’ sanitary tanks and to refuel. The marina provides comfortable accommodation for tourists, a restaurant and cafeteria. Around the marina there is also a camping site with places for a barbeque or bonfire, sports fields and playground for children.

Approximately 20 jobs were created as a result of the project including the staff of marina, lifeguards on the newly created beaches, and also due to the development of restaurants in the area.

Total investment and EU funding

Total investment for the project “The activation of the Great Loop of Wielkopolska - Phase I: construction of marinas on the river Noteć - marina in Drawsko” is EUR 752 189 (PLN 3 083 973), of which the EU’s European Regional Development Fund is contributing EUR 484 572 (PLN 1 986 745) from the Operational Programme “Greater Poland” for the 2007 to 2013 programming period.
