The project will see an extension of al. Solidarności national road from its junction with al. Warszawska to the outskirts of Lublin. The extension is 3.8 km in length and consists of two carriageways with a speed limit of 70 km/h.

At the same time, access and service roads, with a total length of 4.8 km, will be constructed along with overpasses, bridges and thoroughfares for pedestrians and cyclists. Additional road safety features include traffic barriers and fencing, and new lighting.

Taking concrete steps to boost economic growth

The expected benefits will be four-fold: increasing comfort for road users; improving the attractiveness of Lublin; easing travel on existing national roads; and boosting the regional economy.

The newly-extended section will eventually be incorporated into national road No. 19, the planned expressway in the trans-European transport network (TEN-T).

This transport corridor will link the Baltic and Scandinavian countries with southern Europe, with particular connections into Slovakia and Hungary in central Europe. This project is part of a wider programme of infrastructure works concerning the construction of national road No. 19 over a length of 5.8 km - both within the city of Lublin, and creating interchanges to the Lublin bypass - both phases of which are technically dependent on each other.

It is estimated that the project will create 330 jobs.

Total investment and EU funding

Total investment for the project "Construction of the access road to the Dąbrownica interchange on the Lublin bypass on the S12, S17 and S19 expressways (section from the junction of al. Solidarności and al. Warszawska to the city limits)" is EUR 108 096 208, of which the EU´s Cohesion Fund is contributing EUR 82 014 592 from the Operational Programme "Infrastructure and Environment" for the 2007 to 2013 programming period. The project falls under priority axis "Trans-European transport networks TEN‑T".
