The project comprises the modernisation of the Warsaw Rembertów - Zielonka - Tłuszcz (Sadowne) section of the E75 railway line, a stretch amounting to 66 km. It forms part of a larger project, which aims to modernise the E75 railway line, including the Polish part of the Rail Baltica line (Warsaw – Białystok – Lithuanian border), which is stage I of the Trans-European Transport Corridor, linking Helsinki, Tallinn, Riga, Kaunas and Warsaw. The overall aim of the investment programme is to ensure safer and easier passenger and freight transportation on the E75 railway line.

The project includes: modernisation of lines No 449 (Warszawa Rembertów – Zielonka section) and No 6 (Zielonka – Tłuszcz – to Sadowne Węgrowskie station); construction of two new tracks on the section from Zielonka to Wołomin Słoneczna; and preparation of bypass line No 10 (Legionowo – Tłuszcz), to take the traffic during work on the E75.

Rail modernisation to combine economic boost and environment protection

The modernisation involves: introducing track changes with base and drainage; modernising the power network; building or re-building engineering structures such as viaducts; renewing support infrastructures such as shelters and platforms, while pedestrian rail crossings will be dismantled and replaced with a series of alternatives; creating a signalling system and modernising the network and telecommunications equipment; and providing environment protection equipment in the form of animal crossings and ecological corridors.

Once completed, the project should lead to an increase in the share of rail transport. The main beneficiaries of the project will be communities living close to the line, passengers who use the E75 and its connections, and freight operators.
