The Ionian motorway concession relates to the construction of the 196 km long section Antirrio-Ioannina along with the works to upgrade existing sections of the PATHE motorway (the Patra-Athens-Thessaloniki which is part of the Trans-European Transport Network). The motorway will pass through four Greek regions: Ipiros, Dytiki Ellada, Sterea Ellada and Attiki. These road infrastructure works will improve access to the region through which the motorway passes thus benefiting the Greek economy.

The improvement of road conditions will also contribute to the reduction of travel time and road traffic accidents - it is estimated that they will decrease by more than 37 %. The cost of transportation of goods and people will decrease as well. Moreover 60 jobs are expected to be created during the implementation phase of the project, with a further 360 jobs estimated to be generated once the project is fully implemented.
