Investment in a new hospital complex on the island of Réunion

New health infrastructure and the bringing together of smaller facilities and services is leading to higher quality healthcare coverage on the east of the island.

The “Pôle Sanitaire de l’Est” (PSE) groups together various health facilities in Saint-Benoît for greater functionality. Aside from guaranteeing a high-quality health service, the PSE aims to ensure an efficient pooling and rationalising of resources. This will contribute to the development of disadvantaged areas and help ensure social cohesion. 

A successful hospital renovation creating jobs

The new construction includes three buildings: the logistic and hospital services; the emergency services and medical imaging, hemodialysis, paediatric, neonatal, archive and sterilisation services, along with the laboratory, administration, and the surgical units. The third building is the new “Clinique Médicale de l’Est”.

In all, 84 places have been created or renovated for elderly people, while 95 places have been created for other patients, and places for another 154 have been renovated.

Moreover 240 jobs are expected to be created after project implementation.

Total investment and EU funding

Total investment for the project “Pôle Sanitaire EST” is EUR 117  612  510 . The EU’s European Regional Development Fund is contributing EUR 23  513  807 from the Operational Programme “Réunion” for the 2007 to 2013 programming period, under the priority axis “Competitiveness of Human Resources”.
