E-mobility NSR: Improving the North Sea Electric Mobility Network

The e-mobility North Sea Region (NSR) project was designed to create favourable conditions to promote the common development of electric mobility in the North Sea Region in order to foster current and future developments, paying attention to links with both freight and logistics.

E-mobility is a fast growing field and of great strategic value to the NSR with many cities seeking to develop strategies and action plans to stimulate electric mobility and encourage the use of electric vehicles in Europe and beyond.

The project’s objectives, successfully developed and implemented, focused on providing state-of-the-art information on e-mobility, insights on gaps and needs in the field, the development of a NSR smart grid concept with charging points, and the integration of urban freight logistics into the e-mobility network.

Building a network

A lack of fine-tuning and links means valuable human and financial resources are not being put to full use. The e-mobility NSR project links various existing networks creating a transnational backbone within the NSR to increase accessibility to electric vehicles and stimulate investment in the field. 

Well known beyond the NSR, the project has established and extended networks and collaborated with local authorities, government offices, universities, NGOs, SMEs and further stakeholders and has, through Its work, contributed to a better awareness of e-mobility in the North Sea Region.

Policy development

Electric vehicles remain in development and the electrification of the transport sector is on ongoing, dynamic process where things can change rapidly. This is true for both the deployment of electric vehicles and for certain policy developments. This is why making long-term plans is a challenge.

Nevertheless, the project has published state-of-the-art information that may support policy development in e-mobility in the region. Ultimately, the project outputs may contribute to providing a long-term basis upon which regional and local governments as well as other relevant stakeholders In the NSR may engage on e-mobility.


Total investment and EU funding

Total investment for the project “e-mobility NSR” is EUR 6 658 366, of which the EU’s European Regional Development Fund is contributing EUR 3 329 366 from the “North Sea Region” transnational cooperation programme for the 2007-2013 programming period.
