Modernisation of the Tábor–Sudoměřice railway: a vital national and European transport link.
The project "Modernization of the Tábor–Sudoměřice u Tábora Rail Line" is located in the South Bohemian Region on Transit Corridor IV. It is a rail transport project that improves the competitive position of rail transport, increases trans-European connectivity and promotes convergence with other EU regions; while ensuring that the infrastructure meets the highest safety and environmental standards.
The project to modernize the Tábor–Sudoměřice u Tábora railway line is located in the South Bohemian Region on the Czech Transit Corridor IV. The project introduces double-tracking over a 11.4 km stretch of railway and will adjust curves on the route that will allow trains to reach speeds of up to 160 kilometres per hour, significantly reducing journey times. The section is part of the Czech Railway National Corridor IV from Prague up to Horní Dvorište at the Austrian border. It is a part of the trans-European transport network – the TEN-T programme TEN-T core network (TEN-T priority project no.22).
The Tábor–Sudoměřice u Tábora section of the line is one of ten phases in a project modernising the entire line from Prague to the Austrian border. The upgrading and development includes work on railway junctions and the interoperability of railway infrastructures and their vehicles.
From Germany to Greece
Transport plays a central role in the European Union’s ambitions to strengthen economic growth. To make the single market work effectively people and goods need to be able to move from country-to-country without barriers. Bottlenecks often occur at cross-border points, but it is also important to address bottlenecks within each country. The Tábor–Sudoměřice u Tábora railway line is of national importance, but it is also one part of a wider priority project, priority 22. In all, TEN-T supports 30 priority projects that criss-cross the entire economic area. It is a vast and ambitious network that aims to ensure people and businesses will be able to have easier access to a wider European market.
Priority 22 is a project that links eastern EU countries through a major railway axis. This axis is the only connection from south-eastern Europe (and Greece) to the heart of the EU. It starts in Athens and passes through Sofia, Budapest, Vienna, Prague to Nürnberg/Dresden. Most of the work on this priority has been completed. The current links between East and West that were more like a patchwork have been transformed into a coherent passage facilitating economic growth.
