Dental implantology and tissue regeneration research and development centre opens

Innovation, research and technological development in the Czech Republic has been given a boost by the opening of a new research and development centre for dental implantology and tissue regeneration in Prague’s Hloubětín district. The centre is equipped with state-of-the-art technologies, devices and specialised software for use in research and development related to innovation projects in the fields of components of dental implantation systems and bone tissue regeneration materials.

" Thanks to the support granted by the European Regional Development Fund we were able to build a first-class research and development centre with high-tech equipment, which helps us to keep up with world leaders in the field of dental implantology and tissue regeneration. Our long-term work was rewarded with the prestigious Scientific Award “Ceska Hlava 2010” in the category, “Industry”. "

Jakub Strnad, CEO, LASAK

The centre's main areas of research are materials used for transplantation and controlled regeneration of bone tissue, innovations in dental implantation systems and individual implant system components for bone transplantation in maxillocranial surgery and facial epithetic reconstruction. A system for neurosurgical implants for intervertebral fusion has also been developed at the centre.

Three new research and development jobs and a patent

The construction of the new centre has led to the creation of three research and development jobs, as well as the submission of a patent. It has also made it possible to develop improved materials for the regeneration of bone tissue and dental implants. This should enable higher quality, faster and more affordable treatment for patients.

The research and development centre was built by LASAK, the Czech manufacturer of ceramic material for bone tissue replacement, with support from the EU’s European Regional Development Fund. LASAK develops, manufactures and sells innovative healthcare products, as well as pursuing research on development of new biomaterial in cooperation with scientific institutions, universities and clinics throughout the Czech Republic.

Total investment and EU funding

Total investment for the project “Research and development centre for dental implantology and tissue regeneration” is EUR 1 572 940, of which the EU’s European Regional Development Fund is contributing EUR 330 000 from the Operational Programme “Prague” for the 2007 to 2013 programming period.
