" The new HAGEcut sawing machine was presented for the first time in Spring 2010 at the 'Tube & Wire' trade fair in Düsseldorf and received very favourably. A first machine has already been sold. Further requests are already at the state of tenders. "

Martina Grassberger, Styrian Business Promotion Agency

Based on a sound market analysis, the project can determine demand for innovative technological and engineering solutions in a wide field of market sectors. This search for success potentials leads to new product ideas. Combined with the technological expertise of HAGE Sondermaschinenbau GmbH, specialists in special machinery, feasible projects are brought to development.

Bringing products to market

Innovative product ideas are being tested for market relevance first before the product development begins, in order to avoid economically unsustainable undertakings. Thus, the idea of developing a packaging machine for beech wood was discarded as the pricing possibilities were insufficient to justify the investment costs.

Other innovative ideas have however been successfully implemented. For example, a standard sawing machine for metal works has been realised and presented on relevant trade fairs. It is now being produced as HAGEcut, a high-tech automatised sawing machine which can be individualised for customers. The design of the machine unites simple and intuitive handling with precise cuts and a large variety of uses, including sawing, burring, punching, and brushing of metals with different profiles and characteristics.

Investing in the future

The innovation at HAGE, which was started by the creative project, continues. Another innovative product idea, the development of saw gearboxes, had to be held back initially due to a lack of capacity. A suitable partner having now been found, this project can go ahead too – just one example of many more innovations to follow.

The technological development achieved as part of the project allow HAGE to remain competitive and at the forefront of mechanical engineering. It thus contributes to securing jobs for highly qualified employees at this Styrian family enterprise.

Total investment and EU funding

Total investment for the project “HAGE Sondermaschinenbau - Advice on the development of new innovative product ideas” is EUR 30 000 with the EU’s European Regional Development Fund contributing EUR 3 750 through the “Styria” operational programme for the 2007-2013 programming period.
