Evaluation

Three types of evaluation have been identified for the 2014-20 programming period: before (ex ante), during (ongoing), and after (ex post). Cohesion policy is evaluated on a partnership basis. Member States are responsible for ex ante evaluation while the European Commission carries out ex post evaluation.Ongoing evaluations are mainly the responsibility of the Member States, but the Commission may also undertake them on its own initiative, in partnership with the Member States. Key tasks for the European Commission include providing guidance on evaluation and facilitating exchanges of experiences between Member States.
