Corina Crețu, the Commissioner for Regional Policy, is in Paris both today and tomorrow. This evening, the Commissioner will take part in an event in honour of French elected officials from overseas, which is being held at the Elysée Palace in the presence of President Emmanuel Macron. Earlier in the day, she attended a meeting with the Minister for Territorial Cohesion, Jacques Mézard, and presented the Commission’s proposal for cohesion policy 2021–2027 to the Senate.

Tomorrow, the Commissioner will participate in the Assises des Outre-Mer at the Elysée Palace, along with the Minister for Overseas, Annick Girardin, the Minister for European Affairs, Nathalie Loiseau, and French officials from overseas. President Macron will deliver the closing speech of these Assises.

Commissioner Crețu commented: ’As President Juncker has said, the outermost regions are the most exceptional parts of Europe, and this Commission is paying particular attention to them, with tailored support for growth and jobs, especially for young people. Our proposal for the EU’s next multi-annual budget, particularly the future cohesion policy, offers many opportunities for the inhabitants of these regions.’

Information on what the Commission is proposing for the outermost regions in its proposal for the 2021-2027 European budget, as well as its actions in favour of these regions since the beginning of President Juncker’s term, are available in this information sheet.
