In an effort to provide higher-quality training for paramedics and doctors in the Czech Republic, an ERDF project has developed a high-tech patient model device for a variety of patients, replicating a one-year-old child, a five-year-old child and a fully-grown adult.

A much improved version of the type of dummy commonly used in first aid training, the new model can simulate critical conditions through the use of sounds, movement, breathing simulation, and more. For example, it will be able to replicate the sounds of a human vomiting or turning blue in the face, or simulate respiratory problems, shivering and seizure.

This innovative device will enable training instructors to select specific symptoms as well as their intensity so as to better tailor training for their students. The life-like dummy will also enable students to practice real health-care actions, such as securing breathing passages or intravenous routes or performing a tracheotomy.

The high-tech dummy patient is destined to be stationed at an ambulance centre in Hradec Králové to better train paramedics and doctors.
