An ERDF-funded project will supply clean water to villages in central Greece suffering from quality and shortage problems, providing much-needed relief.

The project foresees the construction of a pipeline, storage tanks and pumps to ensure the adequate transfer of water from the municipality of Farkadona to the nearby villages, including Panagitsa, Grizano, Achladochori and Diazellos.

The villages currently face either water quality or water shortage problems. For example, Panagitsa’s water currently contains a high level of nitrates while Grizano’s water supply dwindled during the hot summer months in the Mediterranean country.

A tender for construction of the so-called external water supply network was awarded by the Regional Operational Programme of Thessaly. The EUR 1.26 million project is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
