The Commission invests €15.7 million in the New Generation Data Centre of Covilhã, Portugal

The European Commission approved the major project worth almost €59 million, with €15.7 million from the European Regional Development Fund, which concerns the New Generation Data Centre in Covilhã, Portugal.

The project concerns the design and construction of the Operations Support Centre and of the first Technical Module of a data centre which will be at the cutting edge of high technology and energy efficiency.

At this stage, the Centre can host the installation of 10 000 servers connected to the high speed optic fibre network. It should create 86 new direct jobs and 500 additional indirect jobs.
