€78 million of EU funds to boost innovation in the Italian-Slovenian border region

Today the European Commission adopted the new interreg programme between Italy and Slovenia, worth €91.6 million with almost €79 million coming from the European Regional Development Fund. In line with the objectives of the Europe 2020 Strategy, this programme will help the border region increase the cooperation between the public and private sectors and invest in a smart transportation system. The area covered by the programme is part of both the Alpine region and the Adriatic-Ionian

Today the European Commission adopted the new interreg programme between Italy and Slovenia, worth €91.6 million with almost €79 million coming from the European Regional Development Fund.

In line with the objectives of the Europe 2020 Strategy, this programme will help the border region increase the cooperation between the public and private sectors and invest in a smart transportation system.

The area covered by the programme is part of both the Alpine region and the Adriatic-Ionian region, which aligns the programme's objectives with the macro-regional goals of the EU Strategy for the Alpine Region (EUSALP) and the EU Strategy for the Adriatic Ionian Region (EUSAIR).

The programme will focus on the following four priorities:

  • Supporting an innovative economy
  • Cooperating for low carbon strategies
  • Protecting and promoting natural and cultural resources
  • Enhancing administrative capacity building and cross-border governance.
