Consultation on the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR)

The public consultation on the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR) aims to reach relevant stakeholders and to gather their ideas in order to make sure that the Strategy is realistic in its starting point, appropriate in its objectives and responsive to the real needs of inhabitants of the Region. The overall objective of the EUSAIR is to promote sustainable economic and social prosperity of the Region through growth and jobs creation, by improving its attractiveness, competitiveness and connectivity while at the same time preserving the environment and ensuring healthy and balanced marine and coastal ecosystems.

Objective of the consultation

The European Council of 13/14 December 2012 has formally asked the European Commission to present an EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region before the end of 2014"(…) subject to the evaluation of the concept of macro-regional strategies (…)" due in June 2013. Therefore, the European Commission is actively seeking the contributions of all those interested (including Member States, non-EU countries, regional and local authorities, inter-Governmental and non-Governmental bodies, public organisations, enterprises, civil society and general public). The aim of the public consultation on the EUSAIR is to reach relevant stakeholders and to gather their ideas in order to make sure that the Strategy is realistic in its starting point, appropriate in its objectives and responsive to the real needs of inhabitants of the Region.

How to submit your contribution

You are invited to reply to this public consultation by answering the on line questionnaire.
Please, submit your response to this public consultation by 17 January 2014 at the latest.

When considering the questions it is important to keep in mind that the actions and projects to be proposed should (a) concern the Adriatic and Ionian Region as a macro-region - as opposed to the national or EU level -, (b) have a positive impact on the citizens, enterprises, and the environment and (c) be feasible in the short to mid-term. If you wish to contribute with a paper which would develop further the topics of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region and/or issues raised by this questionnaire, you are welcome to send it as an attachment in PDF to REGIO-EU-ADRIATIC-IONIAN-STRATEGY@ec.europa.eu.

Results of consultation and next steps

The contributions will be further discussed in the frame of the stakeholders conference organised in Athens, on 6-7 February 2014, and will support the preparation of the EUSAIR. A Communication concerning the Strategy will be adopted by the Commission during 2014.
